Password Pad for the Mac

Update 2013 Feb 4: Updated to support iOS 6 large screens and autorotation.

Update 2012 Feb 21:
We have an initial version of a cross platform Password Pad (full version) file viewer based on Java. Download and install it from here.

Update 2011 Oct 23: If you upgrade to iOS 5, you will need to re-save your Password Pad files on your Mac with Password Pad version 1.3.1+ in order to re-open them on the iPhone. This is due to changes in the underlying cryptography libraries in iOS 5. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Password Pad allows you to create multiple note files, each secured by a different password. The key feature of password pad is its simplicity, which makes it easier to use  and allows it to be easily extended to other uses. Keep your data in the format that you want, not in the format that someone else has decided for you. Later, simply search for the data that you want to retrieve.

Uses for Password Pad:
  • Create and store important information, such as website passwords, app serial numbers and bank details, all secured by a single password.
  • Keep a diary that others cannot read
  • Email encrypted notes (e.g. credit card or login details) that the receiver can open only with the correct password
  • And many others!

We have also added a companion iPhone app that will allow you to read your Password Pad files on the iPhone, and even create new ones.

The note files are encrypted with Triple DES (168-bit keys), the same encryption algorithm used by the electronic payment industry. You can safely copy your Password Pad file onto a USB drive or even email it around, all without compromising it’s security.Due to the high level of encryption involved, please do not lose your password! It will be next to impossible to recover your file.

User Testimonials

Read what our users have to say:

“I’ve used other password management tools.... Password Pad has now replaced all of them. It’s just much simpler and faster to use, and I’m always finding new uses for it!”

“I often need to secure more than just login names and passwords even for websites, and your app is the perfect tool for doing that”
- Amie Shy

Obtaining Password Pad

You can obtain Password Pad from the Apple App Store. Password Pad Lite is a free version of the app, fully functional except it only supports XOR encryption. It is a great way to test the functionality of Password Pad for free. Please note that XOR encryption is significantly weaker than the Triple DES encryption of the full version.

Password Pad: The full version of Password Pad supports Triple DES encryption. You can download it from the App Store here.

Features

Manage multiple files
You can have multiple files each secured with a different password, which provides more flexibility and security.

Picture
Secure each file with a password
Every file you create with Password Pad is encrypted with your choice of password.

Picture
Keep any data that you want
You have the freedom to secure any type of data that you want -- website and email passwords, bank details, contact information, diary entries and unfinished manuscripts. The choice is yours!

Find the data that you want
Having difficulty finding a website password in your long list of passwords? Just use the Find functionality to quickly zoom in on any word in your document.

Enhanced security with automatic locking
We sometimes keep our Password Pad documents open and move on to other tasks, or even step away from the computer. This presents a security risk as someone else might be able to view the contents of the file while we are away. Password Pad will automatically lock your document after a configurable period of inactivity, requiring you to reenter your password before being able to continue viewing or editing the file (in the full version of the app).

Support for writers
Password Pad is especially popular among writers due to its security and its uncluttered user-interface which removes all distractions while writing. To further enhance this, we have added an automatic word and character count (in the full version of the app) at the bottom of the window, as well as full screen mode support (on Mac OS X Lion) to further remove all distractions on your Mac desktop.
